You don't take pleasure in watching your characters suffer, which is one of the most common faults for authors of slave-fics, in my opinion.

Poor Severus, he went through hell... Everyone at the Ministry that was involved with the whole slave scam should be sent to Azkaban! I hope Hermione is able to succeed with her plans of justice :).

Great chapter, can't wait for more. How old is Snape? Will Albus Severus still be named after sweet Snape.
Author's Response: Snape is 39, unless my math is off - he was born in 1960, the story takes place in 1999 (and onwards in future chapters; I plan for it to reach Lily Luna's birth at least).
Albus Severus will be named after Snape - there's a surprise planned regarding his birth and why he is named so (and no, I mean no infidelity here - it's not my cup of tea).

this seems to plagarize two stories. never heard of penal servitude but you are defiantly stealing ideas from unwell. inspiration? its called stealing.
Author's Response: The differences:
In general - Unwell has no Ginny, Harry taking care of Teddy and not allowing Severus too close to the kid, and slash.
More precisely - Unwell is about Severus battling his personal demons left by his previous owners;
while Servitude is about Harry/Ginny married life and about Severus taking care of the children. Right now it's only Teddy, but in a few years James Sirius, Albus Severus and Lily Luna will arrive.
Severus will lose his attitude of a slave in roughly a year.
I plan on some delightful interactions when Severus first sees each of the Potter children and learns their names; and there's a surprise regarding A.S.P.'s birth and why he is so named.
