I have many names within the annonymiy of the internet. Jadie is one of them. In fact, that is the name I usually use for my darker stories or the ones that have sex or the like of which I wouldn't admit to my friends I've written. So it is ironic that my one Harry Potter story under this name is neither dark nor particularly filled sex or violence or bad language. Of course, I started writing it the same way I do all my stories; I get an idea and I write, and I find out where the writing is taking me later. By the time I knew for certain I didn't want to take it down one of the darker paths, it was too late to change identities for the author.

When it comes to Harry Potter fanfiction, I've always favored Harry and Snape mentor type of stories (I have read the occasional slash as well, but in general find the age distance too disturbing for that). I think I enjoy it for the same reason I enjoy stories that turn Draco 'good'. It is a fix-it, in a way, being able to take the characters from the books and shake them until they see reason. Snape's skewed vision of Harry grates with us readers, because we want him to see the truth and realize he is wrong. Of course, a lot of such 'fix-it' stories have a tendancy to villainise the already good characters, like Ron and Hermione, but oh well. If there's one thing fanfiction has taught me it is to overlook minor story flaws and general bad writing in favor of the good parts of the story.
